The Song
by Eileen Pappas
Ring 1: "Daughter"
Intricate silver braids cradle a luminous moonstone, capturing a mother’s love as she guards her cherished daughter in darkness and moonlight. Inspired by the first verse of The Song of the Dead Brother, this piece evokes shielded beauty.
Ring 2: "The Split"
Twin Apache Gold stones embody the tragic separation of mother and daughter, and a forewarning of loss. The star-studded band references symbols of ancient Babylon, where fate sealed their parting.
Ring 3: "A Cloud His Horse, and A Star His Reins"
A braided gold band embraces raw amazonite and jasper, symbolizing a mother’s curse powerful enough to split the earth. Her love defies death, summoning her son from the grave to fulfill his promise and reunite their broken family.
Ring 4: "The Birds"
Braided gold and oxidized silver symbolize Areti’s vibrant life beside her decayed brother, Konstantinos. Sculpted birds circle the finger, echoing their ominous song—a haunting reminder of the living walking with the dead.
Ring 5: "Embrace"
A braided band holds up a large obsidian cabochon, symbolizing a mother’s enduring love as it transforms into a final embrace of death. This piece captures Areti’s return home, where love and sorrow intertwine in eternal rest.
